WASPS
The best known wasp is probably the European or German wasp, a savage and fearless attacker. It will sting its victims repeatedly. Other varieties are the common, Australian Paper, Mason and Ichneumon wasps.

Spring weather seems to be a major factor influencing the survival of Queens and the population of wasps each season. Young queens are raised in the autumn and after mating with the drones they hibernate for the winter in groups or individually. Except for the newly emerged young queens, all the community dies in the autumn. The queens emerge in the spring to build nests.
